The Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC) is a government institution established in 1973 under the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children. Its main mandate is to promote optimal nutrition and food security in Tanzania through research, training, policy advice, and public awareness campaigns. TFNC plays a critical role in addressing malnutrition, improving dietary practices, and ensuring the population has access to safe and nutritious foods.
TFNC conducts research on various aspects of nutrition, including maternal and child nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and the nutritional status of vulnerable populations. The center also develops nutrition guidelines, standards, and programs that are implemented at national and community levels. Additionally, TFNC provides training for health workers, educators, and community leaders to enhance their capacity to promote healthy dietary habits.
Collaboration is a key part of TFNC’s work. The center partners with local and international organizations, universities, and government agencies to implement nutrition programs and interventions. Through its research, advocacy, and training efforts, TFNC contributes significantly to improving public health, reducing malnutrition, and supporting Tanzania’s broader development goals.
