Career Opportunities in Research Studies 


Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is inviting qualified applicants to apply for various positions across three groundbreaking research studies:  


1. PPH Validation Study  

Position: Research Assistants (8 positions)  

Location: MUHAS, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania  

Duration: 2 Months  


Summary:  

Postpartum Haemorrhage (PPH) is a leading cause of maternal deaths globally and in Tanzania. This study aims to assess practices related to PPH in Dar es Salaam.  


Key Responsibilities:  

- Conduct the trial in accordance with protocols and standard operating procedures.  

- Assist clinicians in setting up patient pathways and ensure protocol adherence.  

- Complete and maintain case report forms, ensuring accurate and timely data capture.  

- Report adverse events and contribute to regular progress reports.  

- Participate in training, audits, and monitoring visits.  


Qualifications:  

- Education in a health-related field (Nurse, Nurse-Midwife, or MD).  

- Knowledge of research governance, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and patient confidentiality.  

- Excellent communication, organizational, and IT skills (MS Office).  

- Ability to work independently and in teams.  


Desirable:  

- Experience in clinical studies or donor-funded projects.

 2. GAIN Study (Genetic Associations of Infertility in Africa)  

Positions:  

- Project Manager (1 position)  

- Study Medical Doctors (2 positions)  

Location: MUHAS, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania  


Summary:  

This hospital-based study aims to screen and enrol 1500 couples with infertility across six African countries, including Tanzania.  


Project Manager  

Key Responsibilities:  

- Oversee project implementation, timelines, and stakeholder coordination.  

- Ensure compliance with ethical, regulatory, and reporting requirements.  

- Manage budgets, documentation, and team meetings.  


Qualifications:  

- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Implementation Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).  

- 1+ years of project management experience in research or health programs.  

- Fluency in English, strong organizational and leadership skills.  


Study Medical Doctors  

Key Responsibilities:  

- Recruit and assess study participants, perform clinical evaluations, and ensure data collection.  

- Liaise with facilities for participant follow-up.  


Qualifications:  

- MD degree with registration to practice.  

- Knowledge of GCP, clinical competency, and teamwork skills.

 3. PRIMA Study (Preventing Rheumatic Injury BioMarker Alliance)  

Position: Project Coordinator (1 position)  

Location: Babati, Manyara, Tanzania  

Duration: 3 Years  


Summary:  

This international study aims to identify biomarkers for Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) to develop a diagnostic test and prevent Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD).  


Key Responsibilities:  

- Coordinate project operations, timelines, and stakeholder communication.  

- Monitor progress, budgets, and deliverables.  

- Ensure compliance with ethical and donor requirements.  


Qualifications:  

- Bachelor’s in Public Health, Project Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).  

- 5+ years of experience in research/project coordination, M&E, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
